Surround Yourself with Scents of Nature at Alii Kula Lavender Farm

July 21, 2017

Maui offers many opportunities to bond with the ocean, but what about the island’s agricultural masterpieces? From a blank canvas, Alii Chang has planted his own fields of lavender and other eye-catching plants on the hillside of Haleakala. Today, Alii’s legacy lives on with 13.5 acres of land filled with 45 varieties of lavender, and 55,000 lavender plants. Stop by Ali’i Kula Lavender Farm, located right before the entrance to Polipoli Spring State Recreation Area, in the midst of the crisp and misty air.

To get there, make your way up Haleakala highway, into upper Kula, through jagged roads of asphalt lined with endless fields of green. Once you reach the farm, you’ll be able to look down at central Maui and the South side of the island. It’s the perfect way to beat the heat and go on a little excursion with nature.

The entrance fee is $3 and children ages 12 and under are free. You’ll be greeted with a sample of the farm’s own lavender and sent to park your car. You are then free to explore the beds of lavender, tall trees, and scenery all from an elevation of 4,000 feet! Book a walking tour or cart tour to pick up some knowledge shared by the farm’s experienced tour guides.

After a walk through the farm, you can relax at the gift shop featuring Maui-made products infused with lavender. You’ll be surprised at the amount of lavender products that can be created. Pick up some bath and body products like lotion, soap, or bath scrub. And you can’t visit the farm without having  a lavender scone! Spread on some jelly and butter and take a seat on the patio with a cup of tea, looking over the island of Maui.

Bring your family up to view Alii’s dream-turned-reality. Perfect for the kids, the farm has a Lavender Treasure Hunt, which of course, rewards you with a sweet treat once completed. Follow the staff’s motto – “relax, rejuvenate, and renew” – and let yourself become immersed with the fragrant land of flowers.

Stay with Kahana Village and take a little adventure up the mountain to visit Ali’i Kula Lavender Farm.
