We had a 3 bedroom two bath unit #36 right on the ocean looking toward Molokai - what a view. The unit was one of the premium units and it lacked for nothing . A double wide lani was the center of family activity with a table and chairs for 6 plus a wraparoung couch for 6 and two lounge chairs right on the first floor steps from the beach. A washer and dryer and a wonderfully equiped kitchen made it hard to leave. The beach was never crowded with no more than about 10 people on the beach at any one time. The condo had beach chairs, ice chests and bucket and shovel and beach toys for the 3 year old. There was also a washer and dryer which are helpful with a small one. Plenty of room for everyone. The condo was fully stocked with literally everything we would need for our week vacation. The unit is the perfect location on the beach. The property is well maintained and very clean. We have stayed at other properties on the island that are located near larger more crowded beaches. Although the beach here is very small, we preferred it because of the small amount of people. We watched sea turtles swim by daily while enjoying the view from the balcony. Would absolutely stay here again. Wonderful vacation and great memories! read less

It’s a second story condo unit, it is so close to the ocean you can hear and smell the ocean. Kahana Village is way from the crowds, and we had a beautiful waterfront stay. It's difficult to find 3-bedroom units. Kahana Village worked well for a low-key family vacation. Friendly staff. Pool and BBQs around the pool.

The pool was perfect for our little swimmers. It is 3 feet with no deep end, so I was so confident with them in this pool. The room (Unit 9) was perfect for us. The room configuration was good, although I will caution parents that putting little ones upstairs might not be ideal as the bed is up right next to the upstairs balcony, so we didn’t feel comfortable leaving our rambunctious four-year-old up there (he likes to jump on beds) and that would have been dangerous. Otherwise, the unit was perfect for a family. The kitchen is well stocked with plastic cups for kids, boogie boards, towels etc. Another note for parents, the beach is great to walk on (and ok for adult swimming) but it really isn’t great for kids. We loved the location since we could jump in the car to get to a kid-friendly beach, but if you are picking based on access to a beach for kids, this isn’t quite the place. We loved having the sand there, and seeing the sunset and walking on the beach, but you will need to head to another beach for swimming. Parking is great, right next to your room, no serious walking, so unloading gear in and out of the car was easy. I am so happy we stayed at... Kahana Village was a wonderful resort for our family. The sunsets were remarkable each evening. The pool is large but only 3 feet deep which I appreciated for our 7 yr old. The mai tai party on Wednesday was awesome as well. Very strong drinks, delicious snacks and wonderful entertainment. We rented a car and everything we needed or wanted was a short distance. The location is excellent. There were some small renovations being done to the room, such as a third of a wall that was mudded, but not painted and the toilet paper holder was ripped off the wall in the upstairs bathroom. There was also quite a bit of dust on the tv in the downstairs living area. I chalk this up to the screen doors being left open. These are very minimal things, I... First visit to Maui. While I’d read other reviews that stated that the unit was dated, and I agree that it could use some updating (honestly, the worst of it was that the cushion on the lounger was ripped), the unit was extremely clean – I’ll take cleanliness over modern décor any day! We appreciated the availability of the toiletries, dish, cleaning, and laundry supplies, as well as the in-room safe, coolers, chairs, and boogie boards. But it would also be nice to have an umbrella or two on hand for the beaches that do not provide shade. There were tiny ants found in both bathrooms, but not enough to bother us and alert the main office. It was wonderful having a balcony with a beautiful view of the ocean to wake up to every morning, and watch the sunset every evening. The grounds of the complex are well cared for, and we enjoyed the oceanfront pool. While the property beach is beautiful, it is a bit rocky so we were hesitant to swim there. We were unable to attend the Saturday lei-making classes, but attended a Wednesday Mai-Tai party from afar at the pool because the actual party area was quite busy and popular.
Staff on hand was also very friendly. There isn’t much within walking distance, but most stores and restaurants are a short drive away. Popular tourist attractions are a bit further, so keep in mind that you will be driving a great deal.
If given the option to return to Maui, we would definitely consider staying at Kahana Village again and would also recommend to friends. We couldn’t have chosen a better home away from home during our first trip to Maui! More read less

Great location, very scenic, would definitely book this location in the future. Our view was excellent and the access to the beach was better then any other vacation rental we have seen or visited while on the island.
This is a great location, on beautiful grounds. The units are beautifully decorated and so close to the ocean. We would recommend unit 4 and 9. We are hoping to come back during whale season. Thank you to the people who helped make our stay so great!

Our room overlooked a quiet beach with views of two other islands. It has a pool overlooking the beach and is conveniently located North of Lahaina between the two major resorts. It was quiet and recently redone in top of line materials, furniture and appliances.
The biggest thing we liked was that the folks who operate and work there are all very friendly and seem to genuinely care about every little detail from the grounds to extreme cleanliness. They even have new beach chairs, boogie boards, etc in each room. In talking to other guests, most have returned here year after year, which we took as a sign of consistent quality. More read less

Staff were great to deal with and very accommodating with special requests. The "Miti Party" is a must attend. Our unit had everything we needed for comfort plus some. The beach is sandy but the entrance to the water is rocky - easy to navigate with water shoes. We had seen one whale breaching during our stay, I would highly recommend this unit during the whale season. A couple of items that prevented this from being an excellent review.
1. The beach does have sand but there are a lot of rocks. Not really a good place to go into the water because the rocks.
2. The patios only have 1 side that is walled off, the other side was open. This prevents having privacy from the adjoining condo.
Other than that, this is a great place to stay. read less

Kahana Village was perfect for our desires. We wanted something with close ocean view that wasn't just another big hotel property. If given the opportunity I would like to purchase the unit we had. It's cozy, yet spacious and convenient to many must visit places on the island.

The condo was spacious with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. We stayed in # 28 which is right on the beach. The balcony overlooks the beach so you can just sit there and drink in the scenery and watch the sunsets, listen to the waves lap against the shore. In front of us was a bit rocky, we had black rock so we couldn't just walk out into the ocean, but if you just walk a bit further down it's fine. It's quite private so there were only a handful of people out there any given day. The kitchen was modern, the fridge was already stocked with some bottles of water, some coffee and there were tea bags provided as well. There were plates, cups, glasses, cutlery, pots & pans and even baking supplies. The staff was lovely. Vicky, Mike and Jeff were all helpful. There was a lady came and cleaned our room halfway through our stay and restocked us with toilet paper and kleenex. Our only complaint was it was a bit far from everything. The grocery store was not just around the corner, it was a long walk and as I had injured my leg, hubby had to go walk about himself and ended up carrying way too much stuff on a long walk. We didn't want to have to worry about a car, so we didn't rent one. I suggest if you want to stay here, maybe you should. There is a bus right outside,,, not sure where that takes you; we probably should have investigated that. Next time we will, if there is one. The taxi service seemed to be below par also. Not sure what was going on there. You have to make it clear you're at Kahana Village because there's Kahana Villa as well. The dispatcher either doesn't speak or understand English very well and/or needs new telephone upgrade. The phone kept cutting in & out and you end up wondering if he understood what you were asking...we waited forever a couple of times. On the last day, we waited forever for the one to take us to the airport (Kapalua which is close). The lovely Vicki ended up driving us as we were afraid we would miss our flight. I can't blame Kahana Village for this at all though. Everything there was lovely. E-mails to & from before we arrived were answered quickly, politely and efficiently by the lovely Gretchen who I met on the last day.

Everyone is very friendly and helpful and we love meeting people at the Wednesday Mai Tai party. The units and grounds are immaculate and are just so quiet. Unit 34 has wonderful views of the ocean, sunsets. and neighboring islands and is away from the hub of the pool, its just perfect.
Its walking distance to the Kahana Gateway centre which has the wonderful Maui Brewing Company (just the 3 visits this time) and Hawaiian Village Coffee which has the best coffee on the island. The Whalers General store is handy too. Just minutes drive from the fantastic Kapalua Bay beach which is great for snorkelling and just a few more minutes down the road is the hidden Slaughterhouse Beach which is wonderful too.
Its a long way to come from the UK, but its worth it. Sitting watching the sunset on the beach with a beer is as good as it gets. Kahana Village is genuinely our favorite place on the planet.

The heat and humidity was terrible when we were there the first week of October but the beach (in the shade) was lovely. Because of 3 recent storms, the water at the small beach in front of the complex was very muddy and murky and we had to travel to go swimming in the ocean. The pool was quite nice except the first day we were there, there were 14 (!!) small children in the pool and the noise and activity level was too high for relaxation. This pretty much continued throughout the week, so if you're looking for quiet relaxation, this is not the place. There are beautiful barbecues by the beach also. The location was fantastic and we were centrally located to all of West Maui's amenities. The absolute worst part of our stay, however, was the lack of air conditioning. It was impossible to sleep in the loft d/t heat rising and we slept in the main bedroom w/ 4 fans on us. It was well over 84 degrees in the condo and the humidity was sky high also. The only way I'd ever stay here again is if we were in a different condo that had AC and I'd have second thoughts about all of the children running rampant. More read less

The condo was very nice although the unit was getting a little tired and needed a makeover. Because of the hurricane we had to pull all the lanai furniture inside for several days and stay pretty much inside. Its not really fair to judge our stay because of the weather. The property is lovely, pool great and sandy beach and tide pools spectacular. We hope we can visit again without Lane. read less

Great coffee shop at Kahana Village, worth the walk or drive from Kaanapali (2.2miles). Much better than you would find at any of the hotels.

We have one 3 year old daughter and she loved the pool and beach right on the property. It was also so handy to have arm bands, beach chairs and boogie boards provided for you in the room. Due to flight changes, we had to extend our trip and as a result stayed in two different units. The first room was cheaper as it was one of the older units. It was nice and the patio was great but it was really old, the shower literally had zero pressure and there was no air conditioning. The fans they provided were great but air conditioning is a must for us to sleep at night. We also felt the beds were extremely uncomfortable (old and my husband and I basically rolled into each other the whole night). We needed to extend our trip and loved the grounds at the complex so much (pool and beach) that we decided to stay there but needed to move rooms. We ended up staying in an upgraded unit which was amazing. Worth the money to be in a premium room. Everything was new, clean and air conditioned. The beds again were not at all comfortable- this issue should really be addressed. Having said that, we would definitely book a newer unit at this complex our next trip to Maui. We were relaxed,... Although categorized as a "standard" unit (not a deluxe or a luxury), #23 was just beautiful and perfect for us: spacious, clean, well-designed, and with jaw-dropping views. We were glad we chose a unit with air conditioning. While it's true that it really cooled down at night and there were breezes, it was nice to return to the condo in the heat of the late afternoon (having closed windows and doors while we were out) and find the place comfortably cool.
The resort is comparatively small and has a homey feel, and as others have noted, it has a loyal following of repeat visitors. Everyone was friendly -- the staff as well as the other visitors! It's great to have the little beach right outside, mere steps away. While not a world-class beach (you wouldn't likely spend a whole day beaching here), it's great for a quick swim and we saw lots of people paddle boarding. Plus, it's wonderful to be able to have a walk on the beach while sipping your morning coffee or your evening cocktail. The property on the whole (plantings, walkways, etc) is meticulously maintained and groomed, and the location is convenient to lots of excellent restaurants and a grocery store. We found that West Maui was a good base for visiting the whole island, and had no trouble driving to Hana and other eastern and southern locations. And the value just can't be beat. For our family of 4 (including 2 grown sons, ages 17 and 21), this lovely, spacious condo with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, full kitchen, washer/dryer, and that spectacular view was a real bargain. We would certainly return, and would recommend Kahana Village to anyone planning a trip to Maui. read less

Close to Lahaina, Sandy Beach with frequent green turtle sightings (one came up on the beach while we were there). This place is super nice and honestly, my father is thinking of buying a unit because it is so nice. We had a great time. Only improvement would be household items provided, like salt and pepper, plastic wrap or tin foil, kitchen basics we're sparse and the front desk told us to use our beach towels longer before turning them in for new ones. The grounds of Kahana Village were well kept with beautiful native flowers, plants and trees and the common areas were also clean and take care of. Love the cabana area and that there is ice for you to fill your cooler with for the day. I loved the location of Kahana Village too. Not too far from wonderful beaches, activities, restaurants, grocery stores, but felt perfectly out of the way of the busier areas of West Maui. Two things that I think are worth mentioning are: 1. the beach in front of the condo isn't much and is rather rocky. The relaxing ocean sounds are the same! :-) 2. the pool is the same depth. I can't remember what it is, but it's comfortable for kids to play in but not so much for adults (shallow). Neither of these would keep us from coming back as we loved Kahana Village and Unit # 3!! We've stayed in a number of different units there. All but one was a two bedroom. This stay was in unit 8. An updated unit with a great view of the ocean and Molokai. It looks directly out at the pool on property. It's stocked really well and suited our needs perfectly. Perfect? No. Is the Ritz? No. :)
What's to love best about Kahana Village is the intimacy of the complex and the management team, it's location away from Kaanapali and all it's craziness as that atmosphere just isn't what we like on a two week vacation and how easy it is to get to town or head up to Kapalua for some really good food. These are just a few reasons. There are tons of them.

I had been told there was no longer much of a beach here because of erosion, but it was perfect for us. Not too far to walk and we saw people with their lawn chairs set up to watch the sun set. It was fun to watch the tide come in and out & the sun sets just to the left of Moloka'i. The beach isn’t too rocky except in a few spots, so just bring your water shoes if you want to get in. We saw people windsurfing fishing, surfing, boogie boarding and snorkeling right off our beach.

In the center there is a pool and hot tub facing the ocean. There are also grills and patio seating for a cook out . We stayed in unit 6 which is a one level 3 bedroom conveniently located to the pool area and the ocean. In about 15 steps you will be on the beach or at the pool. There is an actual beach which is hard to find in Maui. This beach is not busy and at times you will be the only one on the beach. The snorkeling is great. The coral is tan with an occasional green but if you snorkel toward the shallow small rock area you will find multiple stacked coral with poke a dot fish ( box fish) , Picasso trigger fish, snowflake eel, needle fish, and small yellow/ green black striped fish. My favorite were the trigger and the box fish. You will definitely see sea turtles and possibly have them swim to you while you are snorkeling. Scary when you are not expecting it!!! This morning we actually watched a whale swim by to far out for good pictures. We have tried shoreline fishing without much luck. The owner has rods but you will need to bring a reel. We used Demming’s to have our food delivered... As you walk through Kahana Village you will find yourself entering a beautiful tropical garden. There are multiple paths which lead to each unit. This property is peaceful and beautiful !!!! More read less
All of the ratings are based on our experience in unit 14. Once we added unit 4 into the equation, we raised our overall rating to a 4. As mentioned unit 14 was old and out-of-date. Unit 4 was totally the opposite.

Perfect location, friendly staff, great views, quiet and safe, kids loved the pool. Always welcoming, never any problems with room, bbqs for grilling when not wanting to go out and never had any problems feeling unsafe.
Will be returning

Our unit was perfect, right on the water, close to the pool, very well appointed with absolutely everything we needed, in the kitchen, towels, beach gear etc. And if we were in need of anything all we had to do was ask. The staff and management are great and do everything they can to make sure you have a good stay. We chose to stock our unit with a few groceries for our arrival which was a service called Demmings and was recommended on the website it was fantastic and I will be doing this every time I go, it was so nice to not worry about shopping on the first couple of days and just show up. We invited friends over a few times and they could not get over how perfect the resort is, commented over and over about how peaceful it was. So all in all it was another fantastic time at Kahana Village we will absolute be going back and would recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing family holiday! read less

I can't think of any room for improvement except the king size bed in the master bedroom is pretty soft. We prefer a firmer bed. Condo has everything you need including beach umbrellas and a full size laundry detergent to do lots of laundry if needed- we did as we did not check our luggage on the plane. The staff was excellent - the property quiet and very well maintained. The beach is sandy but rocky as you enter, so you need water shoes. We had large green sea turtles resting on the beach a few days we were there - very cool. Overall, a great stay and I would definitely return to Kahana Village and unit 15. Would recommend Maui Zip Line at Maui Tropical Plantation for family zip lining (5 lines and 90 minutes), Maui Ocean Sports for kayaking with a guide and the Pacific Whale Foundation for a whale watching adventure. Also, you are only a 25 minute drive from the Nakalele blow hole - park at mile marker 38.5 (not 38) and prepare to see one of the coolest things mother nature has to offer - free and a highlight of our trip. read less
