Maui Ocean Center is a fantastic place to visit on your vacation. Trip Advisor recently named the Maui Ocean Center one of the top 25 aquariums in the United States.

The Maui Ocean Center is conveniently located near Maalaea Harbor. Coming from Kahana Village, the drive should take a little over half-an-hour, depending on traffic and time of day. The Maui Ocean Center is a perfect outing for families, couples and friends.

Although Maui is surrounded by ocean, sea creatures are not always easily accessible. At the aquarium, all animals are found in Hawaiian waters. One-fourth of these are endemic creatures that can only be found in Hawaii.

The Maui Ocean Center is dedicated to perpetuating the relationship that exists between Hawaiians and the sea. The aquarium works on coral recovery efforts in the open ocean. It has also maintained live coral for over 18 years.

There are various exhibits guests can wander through leisurely. One of our favorites is the 750,000-gallon “Open Ocean” exhibit, where on most occasions you’ll find a tiger shark. Marine naturalists also give tours daily at various times throughout the aquarium.

To attend a specific event, take a look at the calendar. The Maui Ocean Center also hosts private tours or special events which may be a great option for you as well! If you get hungry during your tour, dining options are available at several spots including the Seascape Restaurant, Reef Cafe and Coffee Shack.

Hours of operation are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. The latest admission is 4:30 p.m. Plan to spend approximately 2 hours for your visit. Parking is free and tickets can be purchased online or on-site. Tickets purchased in advance are discounted.
