97 Years of Historical Fun

Now in its 97th year, the Maui County Fair is one of the much-awaited events on the island. This fair has something to offer for just about everyone, as it features a lot of fun-filled activities, exhibits, entertainment, multicultural food and drink, and contests, all of which will fill its guests with joy. As annually observed, the fair will kick off with the largest traditional parade in Maui on October 3. The following days, October 4 to 6, the celebrations will continue with a mixture of rides, entertainment, and amazing island food!

Sumptuous selections include Hawaiian “Pipi” Stew, chow fun, Pateles, Portuguese bean soup, malasadas, sushi, manju, and chili and rice.

And as annually held, you would not want to miss out on the Maui Fair’s chili cookoff, headed by the island’s firemen. Another much-awaited food competition is the fair’s pie contest, where some of the best dessert chefs in Maui showcase their baking talents to bring to life their best pie recipes.

Another amazing competition that the Maui County Fair holds is the School Art Exhibit where around 400 entries are submitted each year, including various artworks made using different medium: paintings, drawings, computer graphics, prints, ceramics, and woodwork. Fairgoers also enjoy the Photo Salon, wherein artworks in color, black-and-white, and digitized formats are being featured.

And for the plant lovers, the Horticulture showcase will be a great exhibit to visit, with a wide variety of plants, flowers, fruits, and vegetables that can be grown in Maui are displayed. This exhibit also showcases a selection of beautiful orchids in the Orchidland.

With an expected 90,000 in attendance at the 97th Maui Fair, this annual event is the primary source of funding for many of Maui’s nonprofit and community organizations.
