Last year, the Hawaii Food and Wine Festival was enjoyed in some of the most beautiful locations of Oahu, Maui and Hawaii Island. This month-long celebration is made possible through the collaboration of some of the finest chefs, sommeliers, winemakers, and mixologists in the Hawaiian Islands and from the other parts of the world. These culinary masters and wine and spirit producers come together to feature some of the locally diverse cuisines that many Hawaii locals and tourists alike rave about.
An Annual Celebration of Home-Grown Cuisine
This annual festival is now on its ninth year of celebrating the many wonderful dishes prepared with love in partnership with the local farmers, fishers, and ranchers of the island. This event aims to help reduce the island’s need to import food and ingredients and to instead, highlight the diversity of culinary influences to the many chefs and restaurateurs on the island. In this month-long festival, get ready to taste sumptuous meals that are prepared using locally grown and harvested ingredients.
Eat, Drink and Celebrate to Your Heart’s Content
Hawaiian wines, beers, and spirits are becoming a part of some of the local bars and restaurants in Maui and the rest of Hawaii. With many brewers, vintners and distillers now making their own names on the island for giving life to some alcoholic beverages with distinctively Hawaiian overtones, you are sure to taste the wonderful flavors these local brands offer by joining the Hawaii Food and Wine Festival on October 2019.
This event will also feature the talents of some of the internationally-renowned winemakers, sommeliers and mixologists from the island and all across the world. On October 5th, the event From Portugal to Spain: An Iberian Feast will be hosted in Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort and Spa on the Island of Hawaii. From paella to roasted suckling pig, prepare yourself to taste the contemporary interpretations of these cuisines by six master chefs in a sit-down dinner, paired with some sophisticated wines from Southern Glazer’s Wine and Spirits of Hawaii.
On October 18th, Hawaii Food and Wine Festival Roy’s 22nd Annual Golf Classic will take place in Kaanapali Golf Course, Maui, wherein you can play through 18 holes with community leaders, Maui pro golfers, and some of the most celebrated chefs on the island, including Roy Yamaguchi and Alan Wong. In between games, you can stop by tents that will feature some mouthwatering food with beers and cocktails on the side. End the day with dinner and an awards ceremony to be held at Roy’s in Kaanapali, Maui.
On October 19, head on out to Sheraton Maui Resort and Spa as it transforms into the Land of Oz to host the Wicked Cocktails, Wicked Plates event. Get ready to sample some wickedly amazing food and beverages prepared by some of the most amazing chefs, winemakers, and mixologists.
The following day, October 20, get ready to partake in some of the most wonderful Italian cuisines, perfectly paired with regional Italian vino produced by Southern Glazer’s Wine and Spirits of Hawaii, during the Pasta la Vista to be held in Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa.
The Festivities Continue on Oahu
On the 23rd, join the festivities in Victoria Ward Park in Oahu for The Howard Hughes Corporation Presents Brews and BBQ for a smoking hot celebration of HFWF’s first backyard barbecue in the heart of Ward Village. Prepare yourself to feast on some slow-cooked meat, all grazed and raised in Hawaii. Pair that with some ice-cold local brews and you are all set for a fun weekend with friends and loved ones.
What about rolling some dice and tasting some amazing food and cocktails on the 24th? Join the festivities to be held in Alohilani Resort Waikiki Beach for some of the best of Asian cuisine prepared by expert chefs on the resort’s pool deck that is transformed into a grand Macau casino.
On October 25, get ready to wine and dine as Hawaiian Airlines Presents Swirl on the Hawaii Convention Center rooftop. Pair some premium vintage wines with mouthwatering dishes to be prepared by some of the greatest chefs from around the world. After that, you can head on out to another event at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa for Fiesta 24/7. You can keep the party going until morning as you sample authentic dishes prepared by top chefs, paired with some cervezas and tequilas served by the pool deck.
On October 26, go barefoot and celebrate under the stars as you savor some world-class dishes, wines, and cocktails prepared by master chefs and mixologists, while live music plays. You can then end the night with beautiful fireworks.
To end this month-long celebration, Halekulani in Oahu will host Saks Fifth Avenue Presents Halekulani Culinary Masters Gala – Michelin Stars. On this night, get ready for an elegant epicurean dining experience featuring six exquisite courses and fine wine pairings, all of which are prepared by Michelin star chefs.
HFWF: An Event with an Impact
With the aim to reignite the love of the land and to remind the Hawaiians of the time when the archipelago was 100% sustainable, the Hawaii Food and Wine Festival will hold celebrations on multiple islands and feature the talents of more than 150 highly acclaimed master chefs, culinary personalities, and wine and spirit producers. Starting October 5 to 27, a variety of events will be hosted on some of the most beautiful locations all across Hawaii.
More than just celebrations, this program of the non-profit Hawaii Ag and Culinary Alliance aims to promote Hawaii’s extraordinary culinary talent and its diverse, high-quality locally grown products, to ensure the islands maintain their competitive edge as a world-class destination. The proceeds for this event will help support local culinary colleges and provide grants for Hawaii chefs to learn in the kitchens of the world’s culinary masters. The event also aims to start programs that will help small farms get their produce to consumers as well as offer a curriculum that will teach children how to grow their own food in school and make healthy dishes at home.
